Dom Hyam joined Wrexham from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee in September 2025
Wrexham captain Dom Hyam is set to witness his former club, Coventry City, lift the Championship trophy on Sunday, having contributed to their journey from the lower tiers.
Subsequently, he will focus on helping Phil Parkinson’s side secure their own promotion to the top-flight.
Coventry City have achieved a Premier League return after a 25-year absence.
The intervening period saw the club face administration, ground-sharing agreements with Northampton and Birmingham, and a drop to the fourth division.
“I joined them in League Two,” stated Hyam, who spent five years with Coventry. He is now preparing to feature in a Wrexham team that will visit the CBS Arena while vying for a play-off position.
“There was a lot of adversity. For two years, we played our home games at St Andrew’s, which was unusual.”
“It’s remarkable to see the club’s rapid rise. I genuinely enjoyed my time there and still maintain friendships.”
Hyam, 30, made nearly 200 appearances for Coventry, including a start in the 2018 Wembley play-off final, where the Sky Blues secured the first of their promotions on their journey back up the divisions.
“I had five great years there, enjoying some fantastic moments and a couple of promotions,” said Hyam. He departed to join Blackburn Rovers in 2022, before joining Wrexham last summer.
“It’s brilliant to see them back in the Premier League, but we are here with our own objectives to achieve.”
Dom Hyam made over 165 league appearances during his time with Coventry City
While Coventry’s Premier League spot is confirmed, Hyam and Wrexham are in contention for a Championship play-off place.
With two games remaining in the season, Hyam anticipates numerous “twists and turns” in the play-off race.
They enter Sunday’s game in sixth place after Hull City’s 2-1 defeat at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
However, the Scotland international insists that Wrexham are focused on their own performance, with the Coventry match followed by a home game against Middlesbrough.
“There are matches across the country with implications at both the top and bottom of the table,” Hyam said.
“Playing on a Sunday is interesting, but regardless of the results, we have a job to do.”
“We need to put ourselves in a good position. We have important and exciting games ahead.”

Coventry City v Wrexham
Wrexham handed Coventry their first league defeat of the season with a 3-2 victory at Stok Cae Ras in October.
“It was a significant game and a massive performance,” Hyam said.
“It was a great game under the lights at the stadium – one of my first opportunities to play under the lights here.”
“We won 3-2, which was a great game and a great occasion for this club.”
“They have talented players in attack, but so do we.”
While reaching the play-offs is Hyam’s primary focus, he also hopes to be included in Scotland’s World Cup squad.
Hyam earned his second senior cap – three years after his debut – in Scotland’s 1-0 friendly defeat to the Ivory Coast at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium in March.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson stated that consistent strong performances from the former Reading player would give him a good chance of securing a place in Steve Clarke’s squad.
“One step at a time, one game at a time,” Hyam said.
“I’m focusing on my performances, staying fit, and finishing the season strongly.”
