A British consultant plastic surgeon, Dr. Tom Potokar, has provided the BBC with footage from inside the European Gaza Hospital near Khan Younis, following a devastating Israeli airstrike. The strike, which resulted in the deaths of 28 individuals and injuries to numerous others, occurred while Dr. Potokar was treating patients at the hospital. Israel maintains the strike targeted Hamas operatives.
The hospital has since been evacuated. Dr. Potokar, a veteran of 16 medical missions to Gaza, shared his firsthand account and footage with the BBC, describing it as a glimpse into the horrific scene he witnessed.
He detailed the severity of the injuries he encountered, stating: “We’ve been treating patients with extensive open wounds, some infested with maggots, severe infections, multiple amputations, and children as young as two suffering significant nerve and traumatic brain injuries.”
