Tommy Fleetwood carded a four-under 67 in the second round to move within one stroke of the lead at the Truist Championship.

The 35-year-old Englishman recorded five birdies against a single bogey to trail South Korea’s Sungjae Im, who posted a steady two-under 69 to finish the day at nine under par.

Fleetwood’s fellow countryman, Alex Fitzpatrick, and American Justin Thomas, are one stroke further back at seven under.

Fitzpatrick sits nine strokes ahead of his older brother, Matt Fitzpatrick, the world number three, who is currently two over par for the tournament.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy followed a consistent first round highlighted by 17 pars with a four-under 67.

The Northern Irishman recorded six birdies, offset by bogeys at the second and 18th holes, keeping him in contention at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

American Rickie Fowler surged up the leaderboard with a second-round 63, fueled by nine birdies, to finish level with McIlroy.

The tournament, which has no cut, serves as the final event before the US PGA Championship, scheduled to take place at the Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania from May 14-17.
