Matt Fitzpatrick of England delivered a noteworthy third-round performance, carding a 68 to establish a three-stroke advantage over Scottie Scheffler heading into the final round of the RBC Heritage in South Carolina.
The former US Open champion experienced a shaky start to his round, recording two early bogeys on the first two holes.
Fitzpatrick managed to recover to par by the 12th hole, and a subsequent series of birdies on the 12th and 14th, culminating in a chip-in eagle on the 15th, resulted in a final score of 68 for the day.
Despite holding a comfortable lead, Fitzpatrick will be mindful of the threat posed by world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is close behind following a remarkable seven-under-par 64.
The four-time major winner registered eight birdies, offset by a single bogey on the seventh hole.
Scheffler, who is vying for his 21st PGA Tour title on Sunday, expressed admiration for Fitzpatrick’s performance after concluding his round.
“I admire him because he works really hard,” Scheffler stated.
“He’s a guy that I see always doing stuff in order to play well. He’s a guy that he gets really into his stats. He’s a guy that’s going to check every single box that he can in order to get out here and play well.”
Sepp Straka, Brian Harman, and Si-Woo Kim complete the current top five, all sitting at 13 under par.
