Avalanche Sweeps Skier and Dog: Harrowing Footage

Ares Masip, a Spanish skier, captured footage of the moment she was caught in an avalanche on Pic de l’Hortell, a mountain located in Andorra.

The skier was accompanied by her dog, Cim, in the Pyrenees when the avalanche occurred. “The mountain was falling apart,” Masip told the BBC, describing the incident.

In a subsequent interview, Masip emphasized the importance of risk mitigation in mountainous terrain: “You need and must do everything that’s possible to reduce the risks.” She noted her familiarity with the area and her belief that it was safe at the time.

Masip added a cautionary note, stating, “It’s good to remember that in the mountain zero risk doesn’t exist.”

Both the skier and her dog emerged from the incident unharmed.
