Spoiler warning: This article contains details of the new series of The Traitors.

A contestant on “The Traitors” has revealed the rationale behind her “murder” shortlist, offering insights into her strategy on the acclaimed program.

Fiona Hughes, 62, from Swansea, reflected on her “wonderful experience” on the show during an appearance on BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, explaining that she targeted individuals she perceived as the “most faithful.”

The local government officer was secretly designated as a “Traitor”, identified by a red cloak and operating covertly after being chosen by host Claudia Winkleman in the premiere. Her true allegiance remained concealed from both the other players and the viewing audience.

Hughes was ultimately banished after an attempt to implicate a fellow “Traitor” backfired, making her the primary suspect and leading to her elimination.

In her role as a “Traitor,” Hughes possessed certain privileges, including compiling a shortlist of contestants eligible for elimination by the other “Traitors.”

When questioned about her selection process for the shortlist, Hughes stated, “I thought they were the three most faithful, and that’s why their names were on the list.”

She identified fellow participants Netty, Ben, and Maz as radiating “faithful” qualities.

“Netty was fantastic, she’s so friendly, beautiful and open-hearted. Ben, a veteran and he was clever,” Hughes elaborated.

“And Maz, his whole aura was one of love and peace.”

Reflecting on the intense confrontation that led to her downfall, Hughes playfully referred to herself as a “plonker.”

She also shared that she had enjoyed watching her fellow “Traitors” attempt to deduce her identity as the cloaked operative.

“We had a watch party here for the final episode when they booted me out,” she revealed.

“All the family were here and they’re quite noisy.”

Despite her relatively brief six-episode tenure, the 62-year-old remarked that it felt like “I had been there a lifetime.”

“It was a wonderful experience,” she concluded.

The Traitors continues on BBC One and iPlayer on 14 January at 8pm.

The former London’s Burning and Grange Hill star bought vodka for the girls before assaulting them.
