Fatal Bus Collision in Stockholm Claims Three Lives

Swedish police have confirmed that three individuals have died and three others sustained injuries after a bus collided with a bus stop in central Stockholm.

Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased. The presence of passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident remains unconfirmed.

The circumstances surrounding the collision, which occurred at 15:23 (14:23 GMT) on Valhallavägen street in the Swedish capital on Friday, are still under investigation.

The bus driver is being questioned by law enforcement, and a standard manslaughter investigation has been initiated.

The incident took place in proximity to the Royal Institute of Technology university.

Images from the scene depict rescue personnel assisting individuals who appeared to be trapped beneath the double-decker bus.

A shop owner on the street, who witnessed the event, told SVT that the bus struck a pole situated in front of the bus shelter. The witness reported that several people sought refuge in the shop, visibly distressed.

Speaking to the local newspaper Expressen, a woman stated that the bus “mowed down an entire bus stop queue”.

She recounted scenes of screaming and efforts to aid the injured, while also noting fatalities at the scene.

“There must have been more people under the bus,” she added.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.

“People who might have been on their way home to family, friends, or a quiet evening at home. We do not yet know the cause, but right now my thoughts are primarily with those affected and their loved ones,” he stated in a post on X.
