Man Arrested Following Viral Video of Alleged Sexual Assault on Paris Train

Authorities have apprehended a suspect after a video, purportedly depicting an attempted rape on a train near Paris, gained significant traction online, according to reports from local news outlets.

The alleged victim, Jhordana Dias, a 26-year-old Brazilian national, claims the assault occurred earlier this month. Speaking to *Le Parisien*, Dias stated that the assailant boarded the train, forcibly accosted her, and attempted to remove her clothing.

Responding to Dias’s cries, another passenger began recording the incident. The footage captures a man fleeing the scene as the train arrives at a station.

This event has reignited discussions concerning the safety of women in France.

French media sources indicate that a man was taken into custody on Friday evening by transport police in Mantes-la-Jolie, located northwest of Paris. Investigators were able to locate him in this area, though the methods used remain undisclosed.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect did not possess any identification documents. However, he reportedly identified himself to police as a 26-year-old Egyptian national, according to media reports. He is currently being held in custody.

The alleged incident transpired on October 15th, between the Choisy-le-Roi and Villeneuve-le-Roi train stations, situated southeast of Paris.

The circulated video displays a man, clad in a black tracksuit and cap, within a train carriage.

Amidst the sounds of a woman’s distress, the individual recording can be heard instructing, “you stay there,” as the man appears to move toward her.

Subsequently, the train halts at a station, and the man exits and flees along the platform.

The woman who filmed the episode, identified in French media as Marguerite, has been widely recognized for potentially preventing a more serious attack against Ms. Dias.

Ms. Dias, reportedly not fluent in French, filed a police report in Choisy-le-Roi with the assistance of her brother, who translated her account.

The video’s widespread dissemination across news platforms and social media has prompted numerous women to share their personal experiences with harassment on French public transportation.

Furthermore, two additional women have since reported to *Le Parisien* that they were victims of the same individual.
