Patrick Murray, best known for his role in the celebrated British sitcom “Only Fools And Horses,” has died at the age of 68.
Mr. Murray portrayed Mickey Pearce, an acquaintance of Del Boy (Sir David Jason) and Rodney Trotter (Nicholas Lyndhurst), appearing in 20 episodes of the BBC comedy between 1983 and 2003.
His career also included roles in the 1979 films “Quadrophenia” and “Scum,” the 1990s TV sitcom “The Upper Hand,” and appearances in “The Bill,” “ITV Playhouse,” and “Bergerac.”
Sue Holderness, who starred alongside Mr. Murray as Marlene in “Only Fools And Horses,” shared a tribute on X, writing: “R.I.P. darling Patrick. Much love. You will be greatly missed.”
Mr. Murray publicly disclosed his cancer diagnosis in July 2021. He underwent surgery to remove a lung tumor in its early stages, followed by chemotherapy in January 2022.
Subsequent scans revealed a separate tumor in his liver, unrelated to the lung cancer, which was also deemed treatable.
In May 2022, Mr. Murray provided a health update stating that his oncologist had declared his “lung cancer was cured and that the tumour in my liver was shrinking.” However, by April 2023, he announced the recurrence of his lung cancer.
A spokesperson for the BBC issued a statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Patrick Murray, fondly remembered for his portrayal of Mickey in ‘Only Fools And Horses.’ Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”
The BBC understands that Mr. Murray, a resident of Kent, passed away in Rochester.
