Copenhagen Airport, Denmark’s primary aviation hub, has suspended all flight operations due to reported drone sightings in the vicinity, according to police officials.
Authorities have indicated that between two and three large drones were observed operating in the airspace surrounding the airport.
The suspension of take-offs and landings has been in effect since approximately 20:30 local time (19:30 BST).
“The airport is currently closed to both departing and arriving flights following the sighting of 2-3 large drones in the area. The duration of the closure is presently unknown,” police stated via a post on X.
A Copenhagen Airport spokesperson has confirmed the airspace closure, citing the presence of unidentified drones.
“As a result of the airspace closure, all aircraft are prohibited from taking off or landing, leading to the diversion of numerous flights to alternative airports,” the spokesperson noted in a released statement.
“Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, and there is no definitive timeline for the resumption of normal operations.”
Flightradar24, a flight-tracking website, reports that at least 35 flights en route to Copenhagen have been diverted due to the airport’s operational shutdown.
According to reports in Danish media outlets, similar drone sightings have also been reported in Oslo, the capital of Norway.
