Trump Urges Justice Department to Prosecute Political Rivals

Former President Donald Trump has publicly urged Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to intensify investigations into his perceived political adversaries.

In a social media post directly addressing Bondi, Trump stated, “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility.”

Expressing his frustration that “nothing is being done,” Trump specifically called for investigations into former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, who led his first impeachment trial.

Shortly thereafter, Trump posted again, commending Bondi and asserting she was “doing a great job.”

“I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, “same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam “Shifty” Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,” Trump conveyed on Saturday.

Trump’s statement has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer characterizing it as “the path to a dictatorship.”

“The justice department has always been a very, very strong civil service, no matter who was in charge, a Democrat or Republican. They went after law violators without fear or favour,” he told CNN on Sunday.

“He’s turning it into an instrument that goes after his enemies, whether they’re guilty or not,” he said of the president.

When questioned about his remarks on Sunday, Trump responded, “They have to act. They have to act fast.”

“I think Pam Bondi is going to go down as one of the best attorney generals of the ages,” he said.

The president’s post followed the departure of federal prosecutor Erik Siebert, who Trump stated he wanted to resign for allegedly failing to prosecute New York Attorney General Letitia James over allegations of mortgage fraud.

According to The New York Times, Siebert reportedly informed senior justice department officials that their investigations had not yielded sufficient evidence to prosecute James.

James, a Democrat who secured a civil fraud lawsuit victory against Trump in 2023, has dismissed the mortgage fraud allegations as “baseless” and driven by “revenge.”

On Saturday, Trump stated that Siebert had been terminated and did not resign, saying “I fired him, and there is a GREAT CASE, and many lawyers, and legal pundits, say so.”

Trump also expressed his praise for Bondi, stating that he had nominated a replacement for Siebert.

“She is very careful, very smart, loves our Country, but needs a tough prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia, like my recommendation, Lindsey Halligan, to get things moving,” he said.

During his election campaign, Trump vowed to seek retribution against numerous perceived political adversaries, including former President Joe Biden, and others who have opposed him.

He has revoked the security clearances – granting access to classified information – of several officials, including James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought the criminal hush-money case.

He has fired several prosecutors who worked for special counsel Jack Smith on two criminal probes against him. He has also taken actions against law firms with attorneys who were involved in investigations into allegations against him, including the firm that employed former special counsel Robert Mueller.

Journalists have been told Pentagon passes will be contingent on agreeing to new restrictions.

A 26-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with allegedly uttering a threat against the British singer.

The influential Trump ally who at age 18 set up Turning Point USA died in a shooting while speaking at a Utah campus event.

Donald Trump and JD Vance will be among the speakers at the event in Arizona.

Donald Trump has said those applying for H-1B visas will have to pay $100,000, roughly 60 times the current fee, starting Sunday.
