Coldplay has announced the rescheduling of its final two London dates on the Music of the Spheres World Tour due to a planned London Underground strike.
In a statement released on their website, the band cited the “impossible” logistics of transporting 82,000 fans to and from Wembley Stadium without the availability of the London Underground.
The statement further noted that “no event licence can be granted for the nights of 7th and 8th September” under the circumstances.
In order to avoid outright cancellation, the concert originally scheduled for Sunday, September 7th, will now take place on Saturday, September 6th. The Monday, September 8th, show has been moved to Friday, September 12th.
Coldplay has confirmed that all previously issued tickets will remain valid for the corresponding rescheduled dates, allowing fans to use their existing tickets for entry.
For ticket holders unable to attend the rescheduled performance, the band has stated that “a full refund on their ticket” is available upon request, with a deadline of 12:00 BST on Tuesday, September 2nd, to contact the original point of purchase.
Returned tickets will be made available for sale beginning at 11:00 on Wednesday, September 3rd.
The band has affirmed that all other scheduled concerts on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday will proceed as planned.
Coldplay issued an apology, stating: “We’re very sorry for the inevitable disappointment, frustration and inconvenience that this situation causes.”
Despite the date changes, Coldplay is still set to perform for 10 nights at Wembley Stadium, equaling the record previously achieved by Take That and Taylor Swift for the most shows at the venue in a single year.
The Music of the Spheres tour has already been recognized by Guinness World Records as the highest-attended concert tour in history.
The RMT union announced in August a seven-day strike starting September 5th, citing disputes over pay, working hours, shift management, and fatigue.
