Jordanian King Arrives in Samarkand (Photos)

At the invitation of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan arrived in Uzbekistan on August 25 for a state visit, according to a statement from the President’s press service.

The King of Jordan was greeted at Samarkand International Airport by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

State flags of both nations were raised and a guard of honor was assembled to honor the distinguished guest.

A formal ceremony featuring national songs and dances was held.

The main events of the visit are scheduled for tomorrow.

Today, Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, together with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, toured the magnificent architectural monuments of the ancient city of Samarkand.

The heads of state began by visiting the Shah-i-Zinda complex.

This complex includes the mausoleums of Kusam ibn Abbas, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, and other historical figures. Its historical, cultural, and artistic value lies in its depiction of the evolution of architecture and decorative art over several centuries. Shah-i-Zinda was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

The King of Jordan, a representative of the Hashemite dynasty that officially traces its lineage to Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, and his son-in-law Ali ibn Abu Talib, paid tribute to the memory of Kusam ibn Abbas. Surahs from the Quran were recited.

During the visit to the Amir Timur Mausoleum, the Jordanian delegation was informed about the state-building policies of our great ancestor, his military talent, and diplomatic relations with various countries. The life and work of Sahibkiran, as well as the largest state of its time that he created, greatly impressed the guests.

The heads of state also visited the Registan Square, whose ensemble consists of the Mirzo Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Sherdor Madrasah, and Tilla-Kari Madrasah. These monuments have attracted researchers for centuries and have served as a school for hundreds of scholars. With its symmetry and architectural appearance, the Registan is deservedly the “hallmark” of Samarkand.

During the visit, the distinguished guest was provided with information about the history of the construction and features of the ornamentation of this structure, as well as the restoration work carried out on the square.
