Uzbekistan Mandates Registration of Domestic Animals

The President has signed the law “On Identification, Registration and Tracking of Animals.”

As stipulated by the law, animals kept and/or bred by individuals or legal entities within the territory of Uzbekistan are subject to mandatory identification and registration in accordance with established procedures. The Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development is designated as the authorized state body in this sphere.

The law establishes the following deadlines for animal identification and registration:

Notably, animals must be identified and registered no later than one month after the expiration of the aforementioned deadlines.

Animals imported into Uzbekistan for the purpose of keeping and/or breeding must be identified no later than 21 days from the date of import.

Animals are assigned an individual number, which is applied to ear tags (for cattle and small ruminants, camels, and pigs), brands (for horses and donkeys), as well as tokens (for dogs and cats).

In accordance with the Presidential Decree of 2020 “On Approving the Strategy ‘Digital Uzbekistan – 2030’ and Measures for its Effective Implementation,” the country envisions the phased identification of all animals (including cattle and small ruminants, pigs, horses, donkeys, camels, dogs, and cats) with data entry into a unified electronic information system.
