Sarina Wiegman’s squad successfully defended their title by overcoming the reigning world champions in a penalty shootout, after the match concluded 1-1 in Basel, Switzerland.
Chloe Kelly, reminiscent of her extra-time winning goal against Germany in the Euro 2022 final at Wembley, calmly slotted home the decisive penalty, securing the victory as England’s goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton, made two crucial saves.
The Lionesses’ victory peaked at 11.6 million viewers on BBC One, representing 59% of the total TV audience, in a match that was also broadcast on ITV.
Combined coverage on the BBC and ITV drew a peak TV audience of 16.2 million, with an average of 12 million viewers tuning in from beginning to end.
Furthermore, the match garnered an additional 4.2 million streams on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, while BBC Sport’s live page registered 11.4 million views.
Overall, the BBC’s television coverage of the tournament reached an audience of 22.1 million, complemented by 231 million total views across BBC Sport’s various social media platforms.
