Uzbekistan will implement restrictions on electricity payments for consumers with outstanding debts for waste disposal services, effective August 1, 2024. This measure is mandated by legislation aimed at enhancing payment discipline in the waste management sector, as reported by the government press service.
Under the law, information on waste disposal payment defaulters will be transmitted to the billing system of “Regional Electric Networks” JSC (AO «Худудий электр тармоклари») by the 3rd of each month. Subsequently, SMS notifications will be sent to debtor subscribers from the short code “2100” by “Regional Electric Networks” JSC by the 5th of each month. Upon receiving this notification, subscribers will have an additional 5-day period to settle their outstanding debt. The existing debt must be cleared within this period.
Failure to settle the debt within the stipulated timeframe will result in a temporary restriction on the ability of such subscribers to pay for electricity. This restriction will be automatically lifted upon full settlement of the outstanding debt.
The new regulations apply to debts incurred for waste disposal services starting from July 1, 2025.
As noted on the government portal, sanitary services are responsible for the accuracy and reliability of waste disposal payment calculations. Payments for days when services were not provided to consumers promptly and adequately are subject to recalculation.
