BAKU /Trend/ – U.S. President Donald Trump has sent an official
letter to Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announcing
the imposition of a 25% tariff on all Kazakh imports into the U.S.
effective August 1, 2025, reports Trend.
In the letter, Trump characterized the trade relationship between the
U.S. and Kazakhstan as “far from reciprocal,” citing longstanding
tariff and non-tariff barriers imposed by Kazakhstan as creating a
persistent trade deficit that harms U.S. economic and national
security interests.
Affirming Washington’s commitment to cooperation with Astana,
Trump invited Kazakh companies to invest in American manufacturing,
promising an expedited approval process for operations within the
domestic market.
He also cautioned that any retaliatory tariff increases from Kazakhstan
would be met with proportional increases beyond the new 25% rate.
According to Trump, this move is aimed at rectifying years of
“unfair trade practices” and rebalancing bilateral trade on fairer
terms.
