Fashion icon Giorgio Armani will be absent from his Milan Fashion Week shows for the first time in his celebrated career.
The 90-year-old designer is recuperating at home following a brief hospitalization in Milan, his company announced.
Armani, who dedicatedly prepared the collections, will remotely oversee the menswear presentations scheduled for Saturday and Monday.
This marks an unprecedented absence from his runway events, a significant milestone in his five-decade career. Last year, he hinted at potential retirement in the coming years.
The upcoming shows will unveil the Spring-Summer 2026 collections of his eponymous luxury brand.
Longtime collaborator and head of menswear design, Leo Dell’Orco, will take the final bows.
Armani is reportedly in good spirits and is expected to attend the brand’s Paris shows in late June.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary next month, the brand, founded in 1975, coincides with Armani’s 91st birthday.
Affectionately known as “Re Giorgio” (King Giorgio), Armani has built a formidable empire in the luxury fashion world.
Born in Piacenza, Italy in 1934, he initially studied medicine before transitioning to fashion, ultimately launching his label with his late partner, Sergio Galeotti.
His fashion house encompasses diverse lines, extending to haute couture, ready-to-wear, accessories, beauty, jewelry, interior design, and luxury hotels across global cities including Milan, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Seoul, and Shanghai.
