BAKU /Trend/ – Israel has reportedly launched a second strike in a week against an Iranian nuclear facility in Isfahan, causing substantial damage to multiple buildings on the site.
This was announced today by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, Trend News Agency reports.
According to the IAEA, the Isfahan facility was initially attacked on June 13th, resulting in damage to four buildings, including the central chemical laboratory, uranium conversion facility, reactor fuel production plant, and a facility under construction for processing enriched metallic uranium. At the time, no increase in radiation levels outside the facility was reported.
The IAEA also confirmed that a centrifuge production workshop at the Isfahan site was among the targets of today’s attacks.
Grossi noted that the affected buildings either contained no nuclear material or only small quantities of natural or low-enriched uranium, thus any potential radioactive contamination remains confined to the damaged structures.
“This nuclear complex in Isfahan – a key component of Iran’s nuclear program – has been repeatedly attacked and severely damaged. Based on our analysis of the nuclear material present, we see no risk of contamination beyond the site. However, as I have repeatedly stated, nuclear facilities should never be targeted,” Grossi emphasized.
