Nadiya Hussain Announces BBC Cookery Show Cancellation
Beloved TV chef Nadiya Hussain has announced that the BBC will not be commissioning further series of her cookery show. Hussain, who rose to fame after winning *The Great British Bake Off* in 2015, has hosted numerous successful BBC food programs, including *Nadiya Bakes*, *Nadiya’s Fast Flavours*, and *Nadiya’s Simple Spices*.
In an Instagram post, Hussain revealed the BBC’s decision, describing it as a “huge turning point” in her career. A BBC spokesperson confirmed the news, stating that after “several wonderful series,” they had made the difficult choice not to commission another show with Hussain at this time. They emphasized that Hussain remains a valued member of the BBC and expressed anticipation for future collaborations.
Hussain’s video message also addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza and her experiences as a Muslim woman in the food industry. She reflected on challenges she’s faced, including instances of gaslighting and a lack of recognition for her talent within the industry.
While broadcasters base commissioning decisions on various factors, including viewership and budget considerations, Hussain’s announcement marks the end of a decade-long run of successful shows. She expressed her determination to pursue new opportunities, prioritizing authenticity and collaboration with those who value her voice and talent. This includes a renewed focus on brand partnerships that align with her values, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Hussain’s decision to carefully vet potential brand partnerships reflects a broader trend of scrutiny surrounding corporate stances on the Gaza conflict. Israel has strongly denied allegations of genocide, which are currently under review by the International Court of Justice.
