Severe turbulence forced a Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan to make an emergency diversion to Memmingen Airport in southern Germany on Wednesday evening. Eight passengers sustained injuries, including a two-year-old child with bruising and a woman with a head injury, according to Bavarian police.
Three injured passengers required hospitalization, while others received on-site medical attention. The aircraft, carrying 179 passengers and six crew members, landed safely at 8:44 PM local time after the captain preemptively requested medical assistance.
Adverse weather conditions prevented a landing at Munich Airport, necessitating the diversion to Memmingen. Ryanair provided alternative transportation to Milan on Wednesday night and arranged a replacement flight for Thursday morning, offering a sincere apology to affected passengers.
The Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority did not approve a continuation of the flight on Wednesday evening. Police confirmed that all passengers underwent injury checks as a precaution, with injuries ranging across passengers aged two to 59.
