Wynne Evans Exits BBC Following Strictly Controversy

Wynne Evans, the celebrated radio host, has announced his departure from BBC Radio Wales following the broadcaster’s decision not to renew his contract. This follows a period of leave after he issued an apology for making an “inappropriate and unacceptable” comment at the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch in December.

In an Instagram post, Evans expressed his disappointment, stating, “I won’t be returning to my radio show. I’m gutted,” while simultaneously announcing the launch of a new online radio show.

The BBC confirmed Evans’ departure, stating that “there are currently no plans to work with him” on BBC Radio Wales. The 52-year-old presenter was recorded making a sexually suggestive remark at Birmingham Arena during a pre-show photo opportunity.

In a formal statement, Evans acknowledged his inappropriate language, offering a sincere apology. He described his BBC Radio Wales show, which began in 2016, as more than just a job, referring to it as “home.”

His new venture, “The Wynne Evans Show,” will be accessible via a new app, a transition he describes as both “terrifying” and “exhilarating.”

Evans’ conduct during Strictly Come Dancing sparked viewer attention due to several awkward incidents, including an apparent rejection of a high-five from Katya Jones and an instance where Jones moved his hand from her waist. Both later clarified these events.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Evans addressed these controversies, claiming some comments were “taken out of context,” while acknowledging a “joke that went too far” involving a sex toy sent to fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick. He admitted blurring “professional and social” boundaries.

He also discussed the incident with Jones, describing it as a “body language experiment” inspired by social media. Regarding his Strictly experience, he stated he would not participate again.

Evans, a renowned opera singer, is widely recognized as the face and voice of Go Compare advertisements, and boasts two number-one classical music albums. Beyond BBC Radio Wales, his career includes work with BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, and a Celebrity Masterchef victory.

Dancer Kai Widdrington had a really promising football career ahead of him growing up in Stoke-on-Trent.

Robin Windsor, who died last year, was a star of the BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

The dancer found a lump on her breast in April 2023, the day before her honeymoon to the Maldives.

The sentencing judge says Kyle Shaw made a “menacing threat” against Shirley Ballas and her family.
