Reports circulated online regarding a fatality in Khorezm region resulting from a munitions explosion at a scrap metal collection point. The Ministry of Defence has released an official statement addressing the incident.
The statement clarifies that the ordnance was retrieved by local shepherds from an area not under the Ministry’s jurisdiction and subsequently surrendered to the scrap metal facility. Citizens are urged to immediately report any such discoveries to law enforcement authorities, adhering to established safety protocols.
“Military personnel were not involved in this incident and have not faced criminal charges. This type of munition is not used by the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan. Available information suggests its use dates back to the 1970s,” the statement reads.
The Uzbekistani Military Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into the matter.
