Mexico City Grand Prix Secures Contract Extension Through 2028

Fans were in high spirits at last year’s Mexico City Grand Prix.

Mexico City will remain on the Formula 1 schedule through at least 2028, following the signing of a new three-year agreement.

This renewed contract brings an end to speculation regarding the future of the event, which arose after local driver Sergio Perez lost his seat with Red Bull at the conclusion of last season.

The Grand Prix continues to enjoy strong backing from both federal and city governments in Mexico, as well as support from key business leaders.

President Claudia Sheinbaum—a former mayor of Mexico City—and the capital’s current mayor are among the race’s prominent supporters.

The event is further endorsed by Carlos Slim Domit, one of the world’s wealthiest entrepreneurs.

Since its 2015 return after a 22-year absence, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has hosted some of the sport’s most passionate fans.

Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali remarked, “Each year, the unique energy our fans create in Mexico City stands out as one of the most remarkable experiences in the championship.”

“We look forward to building on this outstanding partnership and experiencing the incredible passion of Mexican fans once again in October.”
