Garrick Higgo is a two-time champion on the PGA Tour and boasts three victories on
the DP World Tour.
Garrick Higgo has parted ways with caddie Austin Gaugert after a rules infraction for arriving late to his tee time contributed to him missing the cut at the US PGA Championship.
Higgo, 27, incurred a two-stroke penalty for being tardy during the opening round at Aronimink last week.
Tournament officials stated that Higgo was “not within the area defined as the starting point at his starting time.”
The penalty eliminated his chance to tie for the lead with a score of 67 in the first round, and the South African ultimately missed the cut by a single stroke.
Aaron Rai of England subsequently won the US PGA, becoming the first Englishman to achieve this feat in 107 years.
Higgo’s agent informed Golfweek that the two-time PGA Tour victor has rehired his former caddie Nick Cavendish-Pell, with whom he secured his inaugural tour title in 2021 at the Palmetto Championship.
Cavendish-Pell is slated to accompany Higgo at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas this week.
Following the first round at Aronimink last week, Higgo remarked that his penalty “wasn’t a surprise. I was late. I mean, my caddie was yelling at me to get to the tee.”
Broadcast footage captured Gaugert urging Higgo to hasten from the practice green to the first tee.
After completing his round, Higgo was observed discussing the situation in the clubhouse with the PGA of America; however, the penalty remained in effect.
