Dubois Victorious Over Harper in Unification Bout

Caroline Dubois commenced her professional career in 2022.

In a compelling display at London’s Olympia, Caroline Dubois triumphed over Terri Harper, securing a unanimous decision victory and unifying the lightweight world titles. Dubois floored and bloodied her British opponent in the process.

Following a measured first half, Dubois connected with a sharp jab and left hook in the sixth round, resulting in a knockdown.

Harper, from Doncaster, exhibited resilience, continuing to engage despite a significant cut sustained from a clash of heads in the eighth round.

The judges’ scorecards read 98-91, 97-92, and 98-91, all in favor of Dubois, who added Harper’s WBO title to her existing WBC belt.

“Terri demonstrated her capabilities as a formidable boxer,” Dubois commented to Sky Sports.

“For me, it was purely professional; perhaps it was personal for Terri. I aim to entertain and deliver for the fans, hence the pre-fight engagement.”

“That’s why this bout garnered so much attention.”

“I felt a strong start. Terri adopted a defensive approach, which we anticipated. It was challenging to penetrate her defense.”

The event marked Most Valuable Promotions’ (MVP) inaugural UK show. Dubois, a London native, extended her undefeated record to 13 wins and one draw.

Harper, a three-division world champion, now holds a record of 16 wins, three losses, and two draws.

Terri Harper sustained a cut near her eye as a result of an accidental headbutt.

This event signified the return of world championship boxing to the historic Kensington venue after several decades. Previously, the Olympia had hosted prominent fighters like Chris Eubank Jr and Prince Naseem Hamed.

Harper entered the ring with the support of her Yorkshire fanbase.

Dubois, who once disguised herself as a boy to pursue boxing, received a warm welcome to the tune of “I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston.

The fight was highly anticipated, with tensions escalating in the lead-up. Dubois had questioned Harper’s accomplishments, while Harper shoved Dubois during a heated pre-fight face-off.

By the midway point, the fight had not fully lived up to expectations, with Dubois slightly ahead due to her body work.

The bout then intensified as Dubois connected with a double jab followed by a left hook, sending Harper to the canvas.

Harper rose as Dubois celebrated, prompting a referee warning for not returning to her corner.

Dubois increased her aggression, landing powerful left hands in the seventh and eighth rounds, with blood appearing from a cut near Harper’s left eye.

Claressa Shields, a pound-for-pound boxing star, offered encouragement to Dubois from ringside.

A strong combination from Dubois in the ninth suggested a potential stoppage, but Harper rallied in the tenth round, landing shots to Dubois’ head.

“Terri is a challenging opponent, and I had to dictate the pace,” Dubois stated to BBC Radio 5 Live.

“She is a champion who dislikes defeat, as do I.

“The better fighter prevailed tonight, and I hope she acknowledges that.”

Harper, a former featherweight and light-middleweight champion, contemplated retirement after her loss to Sandy Ryan in March 2024.

This defeat may prompt a difficult decision about her future in the sport.

Dubois has firmly established her position among Britain’s leading fighters.

However, she still seeks a signature victory to elevate her profile further.

“The goal is to become undisputed champion. I am only interested in significant fights going forward,” she declared.

American Stephanie Han holds the WBA title, and Turkish fighter Elif Nur Turhan is the IBF champion.

Securing either title would bring Dubois closer to undisputed status, though it may not guarantee the stardom she desires.

Chantelle Cameron’s career illustrates the challenges of achieving mainstream recognition.

Despite being the undisputed light-welterweight champion, she gained broader recognition only after fighting Irish superstar Katie Taylor.

Without a similar rival, Cameron’s profile has since diminished.

A fight against American Alycia Baumgardner, a prominent figure in the United States, could also elevate Dubois’ status.

Both fighters are under contract with MVP, and there is evident animosity between them.

Dubois, still in her mid-20s, has ample time to pursue her goals.

This victory marks the most significant achievement of her career, and the focus may now be on consolidating this success while awaiting further opportunities.
