Luke Littler showcased dominant form, hitting seven 180s and averaging just over 108, to secure victory against Gian van Veen in the final.
Luke Littler triumphed at the Poland Darts Open, claiming the title despite a remarkable nine-dart finish from Gian van Veen in the final.
The young world champion Littler delivered a stellar performance, landing seven 180s en route to an 8-4 victory and claiming the £35,000 prize.
Van Veen, a previous World Championship finalist against Littler, achieved his first televised nine-darter, but it proved insufficient as the Briton averaged over 108 to overcome the Dutchman’s challenge.
With this victory, Littler becomes the inaugural champion of the tournament, marking the first European Tour event held in Poland.
“It’s been a very good weekend for myself,” expressed Littler, now a five-time European Tour titleholder.
“I felt really good throughout the tournament. I’ve not felt the best in the first three weeks of the Premier League, so I definitely needed this one.”
“I wanted to come here and win the title, and that’s what I’ve done. Most importantly it was about playing well, getting that average up, and hitting my doubles.”
Littler’s path to the final included victories over Ross Smith, Josh Rock, and Chris Dobey on Sunday, while Van Veen defeated Nathan Aspinall, Wessel Nijman, and world number two Luke Humphries.
Van Veen seized control of the match, taking a 3-2 lead in the fifth leg with two 180s followed by a 141 finish in a flawless nine-dart leg.
However, this moment ignited Littler’s performance, as he secured the subsequent four legs, establishing a 6-3 advantage.
Despite a brief resurgence from Van Veen, Littler regained his composure, clinching the final two legs in just 28 darts to seal an 8-4 triumph.
The European Tour continues with the European Darts Trophy on 13 March, where Aspinall will aim to defend his title in Gottingen.
