Robertson Stays Put: Liverpool Exit Unlikely Amid Spurs Interest

Andy Robertson has started just four Premier League matches for Liverpool this season

As it stands, Liverpool are reportedly unlikely to sell left-back Andy Robertson to Tottenham during the current transfer window.

Having considered a £5m offer from Spurs for Robertson, whose contract expires in the summer, the Reds have reportedly decided against proceeding with the transfer.

Reports indicate that an agreement in principle was reached last week, contingent on the move occurring after Liverpool‘s final Champions League group stage match on Wednesday.

However, the deal was also reportedly conditional upon Liverpool‘s ability to recall left-back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, a feat they have been unable to achieve thus far.

Adding to Liverpool’s concerns, defender Joe Gomez sustained an injury during the first half of Saturday’s Premier League defeat at Bournemouth.

Sources suggest that Robertson was not actively seeking a move, despite the Scotland captain’s desire for more consistent playing time ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Liverpool initially acquired Robertson from Hull City for £8m in 2017 under Jurgen Klopp, and he has since made 364 appearances for the club.

During his time at Anfield, the 31-year-old has secured nine trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.

However, under Arne Slot, he has reportedly lost his status as the first-choice left-back, with Milos Kerkez currently favored.

Robertson came on as a substitute for Kerkez against Bournemouth but has only made four Premier League starts this season.

Following the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his desire for Robertson to remain at the club, emphasizing his importance to the squad.

The defending champions, Liverpool, currently sit sixth in the league, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal. However, they are well-positioned to advance to the Champions League last 16 and will face Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round next month.

The transfer window is set to close on 2 February.
