Dickens vs. Tsutsumi Title Fight Called Off

Jazza Dickens commenced his professional boxing career in 2011.

Jazza Dickens’ inaugural defense of his WBA super-featherweight world title has been postponed due to a facial injury sustained by his opponent, Hayato Tsutsumi.

The scheduled bout was set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 27.

However, Japanese prospect Tsutsumi, boasting an undefeated record of eight victories, suffered an orbital floor fracture – an injury affecting the bone beneath the eye socket – during a training session, according to reports from The Ring magazine, external.

Dickens, hailing from Liverpool, was recently elevated to super-featherweight world champion following the stripping of the title from American boxer Lamont Roach Jr.

The 34-year-old fighter holds a record of 36 wins out of 41 fights, with his most recent victory occurring in July against Russia’s Albert Batyrgaziev in round four, securing the WBA interim belt.

“This morning, upon waking and checking my messages, I received a body shot,” Dickens shared in a video on his YouTube channel.

“That’s the sensation of receiving bad news. Yes, the fight is off.”

“Experience has taught me that these occurrences are inevitable. However, this instance is particularly disheartening, given what was at stake – a world title fight and my first defense.”

Dickens joins Nick Ball, Lewis Crocker, and Fabio Wardley as one of Britain’s four current male boxing champions.

Throughout his career, he has competed across three weight divisions, holding the British title at super-bantamweight and the European title at featherweight.
