King Delivers AI Warning to Nvidia CEO in Letter

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, revealed that King Charles III personally presented him with a copy of his 2023 speech, which included a warning regarding the potential dangers of artificial intelligence.

“He said, ‘There’s something I want to talk to you about,’ and he handed me a letter,” Huang told the BBC, following a ceremony at St James’s Palace where he received the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering.

The letter contained a copy of the speech delivered by the King in 2023 at the inaugural AI Safety Summit, hosted at Bletchley Park.

In his address, the monarch emphasized the need to address the risks associated with AI with “a sense of urgency, unity and collective strength”.

“It was his speech on AI safety. He obviously cares very deeply about AI safety,” Mr. Huang stated.

According to Mr. Huang, the King acknowledged in his speech the “incredible capability” of the technology to transform the UK and the world.

“But he also wants to remind us that the technology could be used for good and for evil, and so to make sure we do everything we can to advance AI safety.”

In his address, the King described the development of advanced AI as “no less important than the discovery of electricity”.

On Wednesday, Jensen Huang, along with six other foundational figures in AI, including Professors Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, received the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. These figures have previously warned that the technology poses an existential threat to humanity.

Conversely, former US president Donald Trump has urged the AI sector to pursue rapid advancements in the technology, rather than cautious development. The AI Safety Summit was rebranded the AI Action Summit earlier this year.

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick has voiced concerns about using the term “safety,” arguing that, “It makes us sound like we’re afraid.”

Mr. Huang’s company, Nvidia, reached a valuation of $5 trillion this week, specializing in advanced computer chips, including those powering AI.

Mr. Huang further noted that he believes the UK is well-positioned to capitalize on what he describes as “an industrial revolution that’s happening right now.”

“It’s your opportunity to grasp,” he stated.

Major US tech firms, including Nvidia, are investing billions of dollars in building AI infrastructure in the UK, establishing large-scale data centers, which Jensen Huang has termed “AI factories.”
