Jody Cundy is a decorated Paralympian and world champion in both cycling and swimming disciplines.
Jody Cundy secured his 22nd world track gold medal with a commanding performance in the 1km time trial at the Para-Cycling World Championships held in Rio de Janeiro.
Cundy, aged 47, spearheaded a British one-two finish in the men’s C4 category, outpacing fellow Briton Archie Atkinson by a significant 1.7 seconds.
This victory marks an unprecedented 16th consecutive C4 1km world title for the esteemed English cyclist.
Cundy, a nine-time Paralympic gold medalist across cycling (six) and swimming (three), made his debut at the track worlds in 2006, remarkably two years prior to the birth of his teammate, Atkinson.
In other events, reigning champion Blaine Hunt claimed second place in the MC5 1km time trial, while Matthew Robertson secured third in the MC2 10km scratch race.
The championships, which are the fourth edition to be hosted in the Olympic Velodrome in Rio, following events in 2018, 2021, and 2024, will continue through Sunday.
