Glasgow lose narrowly to Koge in Europa Cup first leg
Glasgow City’s comeback hopes appeared to diminish early on, with Mille Gejl replicating her first-leg feat by scoring for Koge in just the third minute.
The former Crystal Palace midfielder executed a short corner with Rikke Madsen, capitalizing on her teammate’s cutback to slot a low drive into the far corner.
However, Glasgow City displayed improved pace compared to the first leg, quickly leveling the score within six minutes.
Captain Amy Muir set up Nicole Kozlova on the left wing, whose precise low cross was expertly finished by Abby Harrison, Kozlova’s strike partner.
Goalkeeper Lee Gibson made crucial saves before Emily Whelan’s powerful header from Muir’s cross at the back post put Glasgow City level on aggregate in the 25th minute.
But their joy was short-lived as Nadia Nadim, the veteran former Manchester City and Denmark forward, cut in from the left and sent a looping right-footed shot over Gibson.
Glasgow regained the lead on the night when Harrison challenged the goalkeeper for Lisa Evans’ corner, with the ball deflecting off Emma Pelkowski and into the net.
Sarah Thygesen capitalized on an Emma Brownlie error to seemingly secure the win for the Danes with a goal six minutes from time.
However, Brownlie atoned for her mistake by heading in another Evans corner, leveling the aggregate score as the match entered added time.
In a dramatic finish, Lisa Forrest headed a cross from fellow substitute Sofia Maatta over the goalkeeper, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home crowd and sealing a remarkable victory.
