Niko Springer, previously ranked 70th globally, entered the Hungarian Darts Trophy.
Niko Springer secured his first European Tour title, overcoming Luke Humphries en route to a 7-6 victory against Danny Noppert in the Hungarian Darts Trophy final.
The 25-year-old German rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the final, ultimately clinching the win against Noppert with a double eight in a decisive last leg.
Earlier in the tournament, Springer delivered consecutive 11-dart legs to defeat world number one Humphries in the quarter-finals, before proceeding to overcome Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock in the semi-finals.
Noppert, the 2022 UK Open champion, defeated world champion Luke Littler 7-4 in the semi-finals but was ultimately edged out by Springer in the final despite recording seven 180s.
World number seven Gerwyn Price was scheduled to face Littler in the quarter-finals but withdrew from the tournament due to medical concerns.
The world’s top players are now preparing for the World Grand Prix, set to commence in Leicester on October 6.
