Hull KR’s pursuit of the League Leaders’ Shield has been extended to the final matchday of the regular season after a stunning upset by play-off hopefuls Wakefield Trinity at the DIY Kitchens Stadium.

The Robins needed a victory to secure the top spot, but found themselves trailing 26-0 at the half as Trinity, needing to win their remaining two fixtures to secure the sixth and final play-off berth, delivered a remarkable performance.

Wakefield seized control of the match with four unanswered tries from Jake Trueman, Mason Lino, Max Jowitt, and Cameron Scott, with Jowitt converting all four and adding a penalty.

Arthur Mourgue and Oliver Gildart responded with tries in the second half, but the anticipated Robins comeback failed to fully materialize. They must now defeat Warrington Wolves, or at least avoid a significant defeat, on Thursday to secure the trophy ahead of Wigan.

Trinity now need to overcome bottom-of-the-table Salford Red Devils next Friday, or hope Catalans Dragons are victorious at Hull FC the night before, to clinch sixth place.
