Makin Secures Bronze at World Championships

Callum Makin’s opponent Rami Kiwan boxed at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Callum Makin secured a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships after a semi-final defeat in the men’s 75kg category.

The 21-year-old middleweight was defeated by Rami Kiwan at the M&S Arena in Liverpool on Friday, with the judges awarding all five rounds to his Bulgarian adversary.

Makin’s fellow Liverpudlian, Odel Kamara, is among four other British fighters who have already secured a bronze medal ahead of their semi-final bouts this weekend.

Kamara is set to face Torekhan Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan on Saturday in the men’s 70kg semi-final, following his victory over Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar of Mongolia.

Teagn Stott has advanced to the semi-finals in the men’s 85kg division after a second-round stoppage against Semion Boldirev of Bulgaria and will now compete against Danylo Zhasan of Ukraine.

In other news, Chantelle Reid is slated to face Natalya Bogdanova in the semi-finals of the women’s 70kg category after her win against Mengge Zhang.

Emily Asquith triumphed over Turkey’s Elif Guneri in the women’s 80kg division, securing a last-four match against Pooja Rani of India.
