Man City’s Marmoush Sustains Knee Injury During International Duty with Egypt

Omar Marmoush earned his first cap for the Egyptian national team in October 2021.

Manchester City are reportedly set to evaluate forward Omar Marmoush ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby, following a knee injury sustained while on international duty with Egypt.

The 26-year-old was forced to exit his nation’s World Cup qualifying match against Burkina Faso – a fixture that concluded in a scoreless draw – in Ouagadougou this past Tuesday, after just nine minutes of play.

Marmoush, who arrived at City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January for a reported £59 million, suffered the injury following a strong challenge in the fourth minute.

Despite initial on-field treatment, Marmoush was ultimately replaced by Osama Faisal shortly thereafter.

The Egyptian Football Association’s X account shared an image of the player being escorted off the field by medical personnel, accompanied by the message: “Omar Marmoush suffers a bruised knee ligament.”

“The player will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival to Cairo [on] Wednesday morning.”

Upon his return to England, Manchester City’s medical team will also conduct an assessment of Marmoush, who has tallied eight goals in 28 appearances for the club.

The forward has been in the starting lineup for City’s last two Premier League matches – defeats against Tottenham and Brighton – after making a substitute appearance in their 4-0 victory over Wolves on the opening weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side is scheduled to host local rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday at 16:30 BST.
