In a significant development for the sport, the BBC has entered into a broadcast agreement with Boxxer, paving the way for the return of world-class professional boxing to prime-time television and BBC iPlayer.

Under the terms of the deal, the BBC will broadcast fights from select Boxxer events on BBC TV, as well as offering comprehensive coverage via iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.

Boxxer’s stable boasts some of the UK’s most prominent boxing talents, including Olympic and world champion Lauren Price.

“The return of professional boxing to prime-time BBC television, available free-to-air and across our extensive digital platforms, marks an exciting moment for the BBC and, we hope, for boxing enthusiasts,” stated Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport.

The inaugural event under this partnership is anticipated to take place before the year’s end, with specific dates and headline fighters to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Boxxer, under the leadership of promoter Ben Shalom, has a track record of staging high-profile events, including an all-women’s card headlined by Price and Natasha Jonas in March, as well as promoting bouts such as Amir Khan v Kell Brook, Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr, Claressa Shields v Savannah Marshall, and Fabio Wardley v Frazer Clarke.

“Partnering with the BBC to deliver premier British boxing on Saturday night television is a landmark occasion,” commented Shalom.

“We are proud to showcase the most captivating British fighters to the widest possible audience.

“This significant platform will provide our fights with the exposure they warrant and enable us to introduce the sport to a vast new audience.”
