American Cameron Young secured his maiden PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship, prevailing by a commanding six-stroke margin.
Young, 28, who has previously finished as runner-up on seven occasions, carded a final-round 68 (-2) to conclude the tournament at 22-under-par at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Fellow American Mac Meissner finished in second place, with Sweden’s Alex Noren a further stroke behind in third.
“I’ve been waiting for it for a while,” an emotional Young stated, marking his 94th tour appearance.
“I never really thought I’d be that emotional about it. I wasn’t going to let it get away from me today.”
Young, who held a five-shot lead after the third round, began with a bogey on the first but recovered with birdies on the subsequent five holes, allowing him the leeway to drop shots on the 16th and 17th.
He becomes the 1,000th different winner in PGA Tour history.
Young expressed his desire to participate in the upcoming Ryder Cup against Europe in New York in September, stating he would “love the chance to play.”
“That team is the goal for many of us,” he added.
The Wyndham Championship marks the conclusion of the PGA Tour’s regular season.
The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings have qualified for the play-off opener, the St Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, commencing on Thursday. Germany’s Matti Schmid secured the final qualifying position.
