World number one Scottie Scheffler carded a stellar opening-round 62, tying for the lead at the Travelers Championship. Rory McIlroy sits just two shots back at six under par.

Scheffler, 28, following a top-10 finish at last week’s US Open, showcased his exceptional form with a highlight-reel eagle on the par-five 13th.

The American, a past champion of this event, shares the top spot with Austin Eckroat. Five-time major winner McIlroy, along with Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark, all shot impressive 64s.

McIlroy commented, “I’m focused on playing good golf and hitting better shots. If I concentrate on quality and playing to the best of my ability, the results will follow. Right now, the focus is on the process, not the outcome.”

Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion, was forced to withdraw after 13 holes due to a shoulder injury. He was five over par with no birdies when he announced his withdrawal.

Spieth stated, “I’ve never withdrawn before, so I didn’t know what to do. The pain became unbearable. It’s unfortunate; I’ve been doing everything right, and this seems completely random.”

Wyndham Clark, a former US Open champion, expressed regret over damage inflicted to a historic locker at Oakmont during the previous week’s tournament, attributing it to frustration over his performance. He stated, “I made a mistake I deeply regret. I apologize for the incident and want to move forward.”
