Briton Glave Wins 100m, Securing Redemption Over Jacobs

Romell Glave secured a notable victory in the men’s 100m final at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, triumphing over a strong field that included Olympic champions Andre de Grasse and Marcell Jacobs.

Glave’s winning time of 10.08 seconds edged out Jerome Blake of Canada (10.09 seconds) and Benjamin Azamati of Ghana (10.10 seconds).

De Grasse, the Tokyo 2020 200m gold medalist, finished sixth with a time of 10.23 seconds. Jacobs, the 2019 100m Olympic gold medalist, racing for the first time since the Paris 2024 Games, finished last at 10.44 seconds.

Glave, reflecting on his win, described it as “redemption” from the 2024 European Championships where he took bronze behind Jacobs. The 25-year-old attributed his success to a strategic race plan, focusing on the initial 30 meters after overcoming some initial tightness.

Elsewhere in the competition, Britain’s Morgan Lake won the women’s high jump on countback, matching Jamaican Lamara Distin’s 1.91m jump. Slovenia’s Kristjan Ceh continued his winning streak, securing his seventh consecutive victory in the discus with a throw of 70.61m.

Further track highlights included Dylan Beard (USA) setting a meeting record in the men’s 110m hurdles (13.16 seconds), Ditaji Kambundji (Switzerland) winning the women’s 100m hurdles, and Zoe Hobbs (New Zealand) setting a new meeting record in the women’s 100m (11.07 seconds).

Germany’s Frederik Ruppert also secured a meeting record in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, finishing in 8 minutes 10.39 seconds.
