Connor Syme overcame challenging conditions at the KLM Open, carding a final-round 71 to claim his maiden DP World Tour title.

The 29-year-old Scot held a two-shot lead after 54 holes, maintaining his advantage despite rain and strong winds in Amsterdam. No competitor could bridge the gap.

Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren eagled the final hole to finish at nine-under-par, but Syme, his playing partner, calmly parred to secure a two-shot victory.

The Kirkcaldy golfer earned the first-place prize of $467,500 (£345,000). On the 18th green, he received congratulations from fellow Scot Ewan Ferguson, who finished at three-under-par after achieving a hole-in-one on the par-three seventh earlier in the day.

Richie Ramsay joined Ferguson in the top 10, also finishing on three-under-par for the tournament, making it three Scots in the top ten.

“I’m incredibly happy to have achieved this,” Syme stated. “Everyone’s support meant so much, and I’m thrilled to share this win with Ryan [McGuigan], my caddie. I’m overjoyed.

“It’s fantastic that they stayed with me. I’m so pleased for them, and delighted with my own victory – it’s amazing.”

Prior to this, Syme’s only professional title win since turning professional in 2017 was at the 2019 Turkish Airlines Challenge on the Challenger Tour.
