World number one Scottie Scheffler showcased his dominant form, securing a commanding four-shot victory at the Memorial Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. His final round of two-under-par 70 proved insurmountable for his competitors.
Compatriot Ben Griffin mounted a late challenge, but a double-bogey on the 17th effectively ended his hopes. This win marks Scheffler’s third victory in his last four tournaments, following his recent triumph at the PGA Championship.
Scheffler’s consistent performance, marked by only one bogey in the final round, included birdies on the seventh, 11th, and 15th holes. This achievement makes him only the second player, after Tiger Woods, to win the Memorial Tournament in consecutive years.
Commenting on his win, Scheffler noted the difficulty of the tournament and praised Griffin’s strong challenge. Griffin, winner of the Charles Schwab Challenge the previous week, led for much of the event before Scheffler’s final-round surge.
Sepp Straka, finishing third, aptly summarized the challenge posed by Scheffler: “He loves competition, and he doesn’t like giving up shots. The guy’s relentless.”
