West Ham United has accepted responsibility for homophobic chanting from its supporters.
The club has been fined £120,000 following an FA charge related to the incident during their Premier League match against Chelsea on February 3rd at Stamford Bridge.
The misconduct charge, filed in March, stemmed from the club’s failure to adequately manage supporter behavior during the game.
An independent regulatory commission, after West Ham’s admission of guilt, levied the fine, citing the club’s insufficient control over its fanbase.
The commission determined the chanting constituted a criminal offense.
West Ham released a statement reaffirming their zero-tolerance policy on discrimination and unequivocally condemning all forms of offensive behavior.
The Football Association updated its regulations in 2023, making homophobic chanting a prosecutable offense.
