Academy Award winners Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

Zeta-Jones, who hails from Swansea, shared an Instagram post featuring a collection of photos from throughout the couple’s relationship, stating, “I love you today as I did then.”

The couple’s wedding took place on November 18, 2000, at a star-studded ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Douglas also posted an Instagram tribute to “my darling Catherine,” adding, “Who knew?”

The couple, who are parents to Carys and Dylan, first met at a film festival in France in August 1998.

Reportedly, Douglas’ opening line that evening was: “I want to be the father of your children.”

As Douglas recounted to Jonathan Ross in 2016, Zeta-Jones responded, “I’ve heard a lot about you, I’ve seen a lot about you, and I think it’s time for me to say goodnight.”

She revisited the moment in 2019, remarking humorously, “You know what the worst thing is? He was right.”

Earlier this year, Zeta-Jones noted that many doubted the marriage’s longevity, making the 25th anniversary “really quite thrilling.”

Douglas has often visited his wife’s homeland, expressing his admiration for the Welsh people and countryside, while describing the weather as “brutal”.

Zeta-Jones began her career on the London stage before achieving recognition in the television adaptation of The Darling Buds of May in the early 1990s.

However, it was her work in Hollywood and on Broadway that cemented her status as an international star.

In 2003, she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the musical Chicago, and she later won a Tony Award for her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. In 2010, she was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

In 2019, Douglas accompanied Zeta-Jones at a ceremony where she was granted the honorary freedom of the City and County of Swansea.

During the event, Zeta-Jones described the honor as “a real honour.”

A national remembrance service takes place in Cardiff as communities pay their own tributes.

Aspiring actress Carys Douglas says she spent this summer living between London and her mother’s homeland.
