Tiger Woods has not competed on the PGA Tour since 2024.
In the latest setback to his attempted return to the PGA Tour, Tiger Woods has undergone disc replacement surgery.
The 15-time major champion has been inactive since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024. He announced the news via social media.
“After experiencing pain and limited mobility in my back, I consulted with physicians and surgeons for evaluation,” Woods stated.
“I ultimately elected to have my disc replaced yesterday and believe I have made a sound decision for my overall health and well-being.”
Woods, 49, indicated that the procedure, performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi, is anticipated to be “deemed successful.”
This marks his seventh back-related procedure in the last decade.
In March, Woods underwent surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon, sustained while training at home. This development curtailed his plans to participate in the Masters the following month.
Weeks prior, he had withdrawn from the Genesis Invitational following the passing of his mother.
Even before these incidents, Woods had maintained a limited playing schedule, owing to severe injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021.
Notably, the American was absent from the initial player roster released earlier this week for December’s Hero World Challenge, an event he traditionally hosts.
