Yoane Wissa joined Brentford from French club Lorient in 2021
Yoane Wissa’s future at Brentford has taken a turn as he removes all club-related content from his Instagram account.
The DR Congo international, who was absent from Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, is reportedly keen on a move to Newcastle United.
Newcastle have reportedly had offers for the forward turned down by Brentford during this transfer window.
Earlier reports indicated that Wissa returned early from Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, with suggestions he threatened to cease playing or training for the club if a transfer to Newcastle was not agreed.
Subsequently, relations appeared to improve, and the 28-year-old rejoined first-team training, while maintaining his desire to join the Magpies.
It is understood that Wissa believed Brentford would sanction his transfer once a replacement was secured.
Wissa reportedly anticipated Brentford to approve his transfer to Newcastle this week following the acquisition of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
However, sources indicate that Brentford remain hesitant to allow Wissa’s departure, with suggestions they now value him in excess of their initial £40 million valuation.
Reports suggest Brentford now value Wissa, who did not feature for the club during pre-season, at £60m.
Consequently, tensions between Wissa and Brentford have reportedly escalated, leading the forward to remove all images related to the club from his official Instagram account.
Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly interested, but Newcastle’s pursuit is currently more advanced. It remains to be seen whether Brentford will authorize his sale before the transfer deadline.
Wissa has recorded 49 goals in 149 appearances for Brentford.
