West Ham United Secure Chelsea’s Disasi on Loan Deal

Axel Disasi has been capped five times by France at international level

West Ham United have completed the signing of Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 27-year-old centre-back’s deadline day saw a late move materialise, with the player joining the London Stadium outfit for a reported £1.7m loan fee.

Despite the France international undergoing his medical on Friday morning, official confirmation of the transfer was delayed as West Ham submitted a deal sheet to secure a two-hour extension to finalise the signing.

Disasi’s arrival bolsters Nuno Espirito Santo’s defensive options as they look to stave off relegation. The Hammers currently sit third from bottom in the Premier League table after 24 games, six points adrift of safety.

“I’m very happy to be here and to have this opportunity. I’m ready to fight and contribute to the team,” stated Disasi, a five-time international for France.

“It’s an exciting challenge. We’re aware that the club’s current position is not ideal, but I’m here to help the team and contribute to achieving our objectives.”

Disasi had been out of favour at Chelsea for over a year, reportedly placed in the “bomb squad” after a summer transfer failed to materialise and deemed surplus to requirements by then-manager Enzo Maresca.

He subsequently reintegrated into the under-21s and first-team training setup, although he did not feature in a senior match.

Disasi initially joined Chelsea from Monaco in 2023 for a reported £38m fee, later spending the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

He is now focused on making a positive impact at West Ham, adding: “The club has provided me with the platform to showcase my abilities on the pitch. After discussions with everyone here, I felt a genuine desire for me to join, and that’s why I’m here.

“Given my circumstances over the past few months, my priority is to return to the field, experience the thrill of playing again, and assist the team.”
