Welsh Crime Drama Featuring Yellowstone Star Unveiled

First-look images have been released for “Under Salt Marsh,” a new crime series filmed and set against the evocative backdrop of Wales, featuring an ensemble of celebrated actors.

The Sky original drama stars Kelly Reilly, known for her role as Beth Dutton in Paramount’s “Yellowstone,” as Jackie Ellis, a former detective now working as a teacher. Ellis’s life was upended by an unsolved case that deeply impacted both her family and professional life.

The cast also includes esteemed Welsh talents such as Sir Jonathan Pryce, recognized for his portrayal in “The Crown,” and Kimberly Nixon of “Fresh Meat” fame.

This six-part crime drama, filmed in locations across Anglesey and Gwynedd, has already garnered critical acclaim ahead of its anticipated release later this month.

“Under Salt Marsh” unfolds in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen – a name that directly translates to “Salt Marsh” in the Welsh language.

Aberffraw serves as one of the key settings for the drama, with the village on Anglesey having been a filming location in early 2025, as seen in the show’s trailer.

Viewers can also anticipate scenes featuring Newborough Forest, Malltraeth, and the iconic Menai Bridge.

In Gwynedd, the production was spotted filming along Barmouth’s promenade in October 2025, with additional scenes captured in Fairbourne and Llanbedr.

Sir Jonathan Pryce, celebrated for his role as Prince Philip in Netflix’s “The Crown,” takes on the character of Solomon Bevan.

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lawtey, known for portraying Richard Burton in “Mr Burton,” alongside Welsh actors Dino Fetscher, Rhodri Meilir, and Julian Lewis Jones.

The series opens as the town braces for an unprecedented storm, and Jackie discovers the body of her eight-year-old pupil, Cefin, in what appears to be a drowning.

The community is sent into turmoil, haunted by the unresolved disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, who vanished three years prior.

Jackie is compelled to reunite with her former colleague, Detective Eric Bull, who returns to lead the investigation, seeking to redeem himself in the eyes of Morfa Halen’s residents after past failures.

The former senior detective says the BBC show’s pre-medical checks picked up her medical condition.
