Van Gerwen Secures World Series Victory Over Littler

Michael van Gerwen first captured the World Series title in 2015, marking the beginning of his six-time reign.

Michael van Gerwen triumphed over defending champion Luke Littler in the World Series of Darts final, securing his first televised title in two years.

The Dutch darts player, whose last TV title was in 2023, defeated Littler with an 11-7 victory in Amsterdam, claiming his sixth World Series trophy in front of a supportive home audience.

“We all know the challenges I’ve faced in recent months, so achieving this in front of my home crowd is incredibly meaningful; it’s truly amazing,” van Gerwen expressed to ITV Sport.

“I never truly went away, but I had to dig incredibly deep to make this happen. I am passionate about what I do, and I hope this marks the beginning of much more success.”

Van Gerwen started strong, hitting three 180s in the initial five legs to take a 3-2 lead at the first interval.

Littler quickly leveled after the break, but van Gerwen responded by winning three consecutive legs, regaining the lead.

A pivotal moment occurred when Littler missed opportunities to tie the score at 7-7. Van Gerwen seized the advantage, winning that leg and subsequently moving to a 9-6 lead.

The 36-year-old sealed his victory with an impressive 130 checkout, finishing with an average score of 98.37.

Earlier in the semi-finals, van Gerwen defeated Josh Rock 11-6, while Littler rallied from a 9-5 deficit to overcome Gerwyn Price with an 11-10 victory.
