Uzbekistan’s Construction Sector Reaches 162.9 Trillion Sums Since Year’s Start

Uzbekistan’s construction sector demonstrated robust growth in the first seven months of 2024, with total works amounting to 162.9 trillion soums. This represents a 10.7 percent increase compared to the 138.9 trillion soums recorded during the same period in 2023, according to a report by the National Committee on Statistics.

The breakdown of construction activities reveals that buildings and structures accounted for the largest share at 68.7%, followed by civil engineering projects at 20.9%, and specialized construction activities at 10.4%.

Tashkent led the way in construction volume, with nearly 47.2 trillion soums worth of projects completed. This figure significantly exceeds the output of other regions. Tashkent region followed with 18.6 trillion soums, while Bukhara region recorded 10.6 trillion soums. The remaining regions each reported volumes below 10 trillion soums:

Large companies executed 36.2 trillion soums worth of construction, marking a 13.7% increase. Small enterprises and micro-firms accounted for a substantial 52.6% of the total, with 85.7 trillion soums worth of work completed, reflecting a 9.2% growth.

The informal sector contributed 41 trillion soums, or 25.2% of all construction activities, showing an 11.2% increase compared to the previous year.

As of August 1, 2024, there were 29,232 active construction enterprises in Uzbekistan, with Tashkent hosting the highest number at 7,078 companies.
